How to Cure Stammering With Hypnotherapy

How to Cure Stammering With Hypnotherapy

Many people have difficulty with stammering, more commonly known as stuttering, where people get stuck repeating the beginning of a word or a sentence before finally saying what they want to say. There is a possible cure with hypnotherapy. Clinical hypnotherapy combines hypnosis and therapeutic counsel. Studies show it can be a faster and a more permanent treatment than most in only a few sessions.

1

Find a local hypnotherapist online or through the yellow pages. Many therapists who specialize in hypnosis specialize in stammering. Call the doctor first to discuss their methods and expertise.

2

Expect to be guided into a hypnotic state. The purpose is to use the hypnosis as a time to initiate psychological therapy. It will range from intensive examination to confidence issues depending on the person.

3

Use the hypnotherapy as a time to achieve a calm state to experience imagined situations as though they are truly happening right then. During hypnosis, a patient is more willing to accept suggestion of confidence in speech or facing the underlying problem causing the speech impediment.

4

Learn to use self-hypnosis outside the regular sessions. The therapist will encourage you to use the technique at will before difficult situations and as a daily practice. Studies show that the ongoing use of the self-hypnosis is just as important as the initial visits with your therapist.

Tips & Warnings

Part of the problem of stammering is remaining motivated. Be encouraged. Fluency of speech has been shown to improve in just a few sessions.

How to Choose a Rolfing Practitioner

How to Choose a Rolfing Practitioner

Your muscles are tense and you know a massage would feel good. You decide to give Rolfing a try, but aren't certain how you will find a practicing Rolfing therapist. Try the following steps.

1

Check local phone or alternative health care provider directories for Rolfing therapists. Use the "Find a Rolfer" service at the Rolf Institute website. Click "Find a Rolfer" in the left bar. Complete the form to find a nearby rolfer.

2

Ask for referrals from alternative health professionals you trust. Often, alternative health professionals network with each other and use each other's services. They may have had rolfing sessions locally, or may know of others who have.

3

Ask all the pertinent questions once you contact the rolfer. Make certain she's a certified Rolfing therapist and practices the steps of rolfing. She start by asking your medical history. The session begins with you laying down and having the rolfer evaluate your body. As she works with you, the rolfer should stretch the muscles, and then realign your body.

4

Find if the rolfer will be following all the steps involved in the process. There are usually 10 different session sequences during which the rolfer evaluates, and then lengthens and relaxes the muscles, During the final step, she should systematically release inefficient muscular patterns.

5

Select a practitioner who will answer all your questions. A good rapport and comfortable feeling is important. You are less likely to relax and follow the program if your Rolfing therapist makes you nervous.

6

Check the hygiene of the location. Shoddy practices here may mean that the treatment will not be effective.

7

Listen to your instincts. If you talk to the therapist and he doesn't quite give all the answers you're looking for, move on to the next one.

How to Choose a Chiropracter

How to Choose a Chiropracter

A Chiropractor is a good choice for someone looking for alternative treatment for back problems and a variety of other conditions. Chiropractors range in practice from those who simply treat neck, back and spine to those who have practices devoted to the overall health of their patients.

1

Talk to friends and neighbors who see a Chiropractor about their experience with their doctor. Chances are if they like her you will be comfortable as well.

2

Visit a Chiropractor before you have pain for an initial appointment. The doctor should do an evaluation using x-rays and other evaluation tools to get an overall picture of your spinal health.

3

Discuss a treatment plan based on the Chiropractor's findings.

4

Have your first adjustment. A good Chiropractor will be very aware of your level of pain. A Chiropractic adjustment should not hurt as a general rule.

5

Decide after your first consultation and adjustment if you think that this particular Chiropractor is a good fit for you. You will work closely with this individual for treatment and maintenance and if you're not comfortable, you won't get the most benefit from the process.

6

Make sure the Chiropractor you are seeing is certified by the American Chiropractic Association.

7

Continue meeting other Chiropractors until you find one that is right for you. Never settle for someone who causes you more pain, makes symptoms worse or refuses to work with other healthcare professionals.

Tips & Warnings

Chiropractors have extensive training in nutrition and supplements. A good Chiropractor will address the overall health of the individual and design programs that will promote the well-being and continued improvement of his patients. Look elsewhere for a Chiropractor who does not do thorough testing, uses unusual methods or tries to market products that are only his.

Chiropractic care can provide health benefits in many areas. Be sure and talk to your Chiropractor about sinus trouble, headaches, allergies and other areas of concern.

How to Calm Nerves With Aromatherapy

How to Calm Nerves With Aromatherapy

Living a stressful life is no big news in today's fast-paced world. With deadlines looming and nerves twittering, many people seek out anxiety medication or other prescription drugs. A simple and natural answer to nervous tension is aromatherapy. Calm your nerves with aromatherapy and relax--here's how.

1

Keep in mind that aromatherapy is essential oils or liquid plant materials. Each oil is extracted from a plant through a distilling process. The name of the oil generally corresponds to the plant it is derived.

2

Take some deep breaths. Before using aromatherapy try to relax and forget the stress of the day; live in the current moment.

3

Choose an appropriate fragrance. Each essential oil has different properties and can create a different mood.

4

Try
lavender
oil. The herb is known for its relaxing properties and can relieve migraines. It can also be dabbed on pillowcases and breathed in for its sleep-inducing effects. Lemon oil may lift your spirits and reduce stress.
Basil
oil can improve concentration and soothe headaches as well as lift spirits.

5

Apply aromatherapy oils. When applied to pulse points--the wrists, neck and temples--the smell is heightened by the heat of the body.

6

Mix oils for a combination effect. Dab a few drops of lavender with a few drops of basil on wrists for double relaxation. Reduce the aroma with a "carrier" oil like almond oil if necessary.

7

Sprinkle some oils on a handkerchief and smell it throughout the day to relieve stress and calm nerves. Use a warm compress or eye mask at night with aromatherapy as well. Breathe in the soothing vapors and relax.

Tips & Warnings

Since smell is the sense most closely associated with memory, you're likely to recall previous events vividly when you use aromatherapy.

Stay away from certain oils if you're pregnant. For example, basil can stimulate menstruation and should be avoided by pregnant women. Ask your doctor before using aromatherapy if you are pregnant.

Caution against essential oils in their pure form. Skin can become irritated if using pure essential oils on the skin. Dilute them with a carrier oil like almond oil.

sandals

are a fashion craze among today's
teens
. You can learn to make a pair of Naruto sandals on your own.

Things You'll Need:

1/2 yard of cotton-duck cloth

Thread

Hot glue

Flip-flops

Upholstery tacks

Scissors

Sewing machine

Hot-glue gun

Fabric pencil

Pins

Create the Foundation of Your Sandals

Step
1

Cut the thong off the flip-flops you want to make into sandals.

Step
2

Cut the duck cloth in half and then fold a piece of the cloth in half to form a rectangle. Place the rectangle on a sturdy table.

Step
3

Place the outside edge of your foot on the fabric rectangle, parallel to the long sides, with your ankle in the middle.

Step
4

Use the fabric pen to trace the top of your foot on the cloth, from the tips of your toes, up your ankle and to the edge of the fabric.

Step
5

Make a dark mark on the cloth where your toes meet your foot and another mark where your ankle meets your leg.

Step
6

Use a short stitch on your sewing machine to stitch along the line on the fabric, from one dark mark to the other.

Step
7

Cut the cloth, following the line you drew, but cut about 1/2 inch outside of it.

Step
8

Cut a series of nicks into the edge of the fabric, just outside the stitching. Avoid cutting through the stitching.

Finish Your Naruto Sandals

Step
1

Turn the stitched cloth inside out and match up the unsewn edges at the top.

Step
2

Use the sewing machine to stitch from your first dark mark to 1/2 inch from the edge of the fabric. Make another stitch from the second dark mark to 1/2 inch from the edge of the fabric.

Step
3

Turn the cloth inside out again and slide it onto your foot. Match up the two edges along your heel, pin the edges of the cloth together and draw a line where the heel seam will go.

Step
4

Take the fabric off of your foot and stitch along the heel seam line to about halfway up your ankle. Then, trim the cloth about 1/2 inch outside the heel seam, turn the cloth inside out and stitch the seam the rest of the way.

Step
5

Roll back the cloth at the toe and at the top to form cuffs.

Step
6

Stand on top of a flip-flop and pull the fabric you've been sewing down tightly over your toes. Using the pins, pin the cloth all along the edges of the flip-flop.

Step
7

Remove your foot and cut through the cloth about 1/2 inch below the bottom of the flip-flop. Then, fold the bottom edge of the cloth over 1/2 inch and stitch it.

Step
8

Get the remaining duck cloth and cut a 5 by 4-inch piece of it, folding it lengthwise.

Step
9

Stitch the short sides of the cloth together and turn the cloth inside out.

Step
10

Center the piece of cloth on the bottom of the heel of the modified flip-flop. You should leave 1/2 inch of the open side of the piece of cloth to hang over the edge of the flip-flop, stitching around the top three edges of the piece of cloth. Then, fold the bottom edge over the bottom of the shoe and stitch it.

Step
11

Remove one or two tacks at a time and put down a line of hot glue along the edge of the flip-flop between the holes. Push the fabric back down firmly onto the glue. Repeat this process around the entire flip-flop.

Tips & Warnings

Be careful with the glue gun. It's easy to burn yourself if you're not paying attention while you use it.

How to Make Jeans Tighter

How to Make Jeans Tighter

Tight jeans are flattering to many body types. And when jeans are too big, they can be shrunk to make them tighter for a better fit. Making jeans tighter can be done either with a sewing machine or with a
washing
machine

and dryer. To change the size significantly, use both methods.

Things You'll Need:

Jeans

Washer and dryer

Sewing machine

Step
1

Set the washing machine to the hot water setting. Wash the jeans on a long wash cycle on hot. When the cycle is completed, dry the jeans with the longest, hottest drying cycle. Continue the dryer even after the jeans have been dried. This will make the cotton shrink as much as possible. To get more natural cotton shrinkage, repeat the washing cycle two or three times before drying.

Step
2

Make the jeans tighter with a sewing machine. Flip the jeans inside out and lay them flat. Choose a thread that matches the thread used on the jeans.

Step
3

Use the sewing machine to change the seam. You can start at the bottom of one leg or at the crotch. Follow the line of the seam on both legs and at the crotch, sewing slightly inside that line to make the jeans fit tighter. The further from the original seam you sew, the tighter your jeans will be.

Step
4

Check the fit to see whether the jeans are tight enough. If they aren't, turn them inside out again and make the adjustments. If only one part of the jeans are too loose, concentrate on just that part. If the jeans began with flares, sew on the lower portion of each pant leg.

Tips & Warnings

If you need the waistband of your jeans to be significantly smaller, you may need to consider taking them to a shop or individual you can pay to make the alterations. Working to make a waistband smaller is a little more complicated alteration.

How to Make High Heel Shoes

How to Make High Heel Shoes

High heels dated back to 4000 BC in the form of high-heeled

sandals

worn by Egyptian butchers to keep them from stepping in offal. Now, heels are a statement of fashion more than of function.

Step
1

Measure the length and width of the feet of the person for whom the shoes are being made. Be certain to measure accurately and measure both feet, as these measurements may vary.

Step
2

Find a last, or a model, that closely matches the measurements of the wearer's feet.

Step
3

Design the style of the shoe, and cut out the individual pieces from the material you choose to make the shoe. Cut out the counters, the pieces which cover the back and sides of the feet. Cut out the vamp, or the piece that covers the toes and foot's top and is sewn into the counter. Stretch the vamp over the last with a pair of pliers and tack it into place.

Step
4

Soak the leather that forms the soles in water until it become pliable.

Step
5

Cut the soles into the shape specified by the design, and beat it on a lapstone, a stone held in the cobbler's lap, with a mallet into a smooth shape. Cut a groove that becomes the indent where the stitching is inserted along the edge of the sole. Mark holes in this groove to show where you will put the stitches.

Step
6

Glue the sole to the upper or vamp, then sew the 2 pieces together using a double-stitch. Use 2 needles at the same time, but have the stitches go in alternate directions so that one stitch is done from the top while the other is done from the bottom. Make certain to use the same holes with both needles, so the effect resembles weaving.

Step
7

Attach the heels to soles with nails. In the case of high heels, the heels themselves could be made of varying materials. Hand-made heels may be made of wood, while machine-made heels are made of plastic. Cover the heel with a material that matches or complements the rest of the shoe, and glue or stitch it in place.

Step
8

Trim the sole, and remove any nails so you can remove the shoe from the last. Finish the shoe with any linings you may desire. Polish the shoe if the material allows it, or stain it any color.

How to Make Hemp Sandals

How to Make Hemp Sandals

Hemp is a durable and easily grown plant that has an abundance of industrial and commercial uses around the world. It makes some of the toughest, longest-lasting paper known to man. Its oil and seeds are full of beneficial nutritional properties and its fibers can be used to make exceptionally strong cloth that will last for years without a tear. As hemp grows so quickly and easily, it is a valuable, renewable resource that environmentally conscious people will want to take advantage of as often as possible. To that end, it's a wonderful idea to learn how to make a variety of hemp products, such as

sandals

.

Things You'll Need:

Hemp cloth

Cork tile

Staple gun

Scissors

Pencil

Pliers

Step
1

Trace the outline of your feet onto the cork tile and then cut out the outlines with scissors or a knife.

Step
2

Place a piece of hemp cloth over the top of your foot, pressing firmly down on the floor on either side of your foot. Make a mark on the top of the cloth where it meets the floor on each side, and then continue to trace the line around the top of your foot.

Step
3

Cut out the tracing of the top of your foot.

Step
4

Fold the edges of the hemp cloth under by about 1 inch and then staple it along the inside edge of the cork tile.

Step
5

Use a pair of pliers to smooth down the staples on the bottom of the cork tile.

Tips & Warnings

Hemp cloth is sometimes difficult to find in the United States due to strict laws regulating its commercial availability. It's sometimes possible to find it at craft stores or hobby shops. If you can't find it in your local area, ask the owner of the local craft store whether she knows of any overseas sources where it can be ordered.

The thicker the cork tile, the softer and more comfortable your hemp sandals will be. If the cork tile is too thick for the scissors, cut through it with a sharp craft knife.

Keep the cork tiles on your sandals clean by periodically wiping them with a lukewarm, damp cloth on both sides. If the hemp cloth gets too stained, you can use a flat-edged knife or strong staple remover to take out the staples, and then put the cloth in the washing machine and dryer. It won't shrink. Just staple it back to the cork tile when it's clean again.

How to Make Gold Accessories Last Longer

How to Make Gold Accessories Last Longer

Even under the best circumstances, faux gold accessories can break or tarnish easily. Protect treasured faux gold accessories from their primary enemies, paint chipping, water and direct sunlight. Treat faux gold accessories like real gold and they'll last as long and be as lustrous as their genuine counterparts.

Things You'll Need:

Clear nail polish

Jewelry box with a lid

Protect Faux Gold

Step
1

Choose the accessory to paint.

Step
2

Test the accessory to see if it can hold the polish. Paint a small test spot on the accessory and allow it to dry. If there is no visible discoloration of the piece or flaking of the finish, then proceed to the next step.

Step
3

Apply a thin layer of clear nail polish on all sides of the accessory using the same motions that you would when painting your nails. Allow each side to dry before painting the next side.

Step
4

Touch up with clear polish every two weeks.

Step
5

Allow all sides to dry thoroughly before you store or wear the jewelry.

Store Gold Accessories

Step
1

Store all gold accessories in a jewelry box with a lid to protect them from direct sunlight. Sunlight causes the jewelry to fade faster.

Step
2

Lay faux gold chains flat and straight when you store them to prevent kinks in the jewelry.

Step
3

Prevent uneven fading and discoloration. Rotate and turn pieces that you store for long periods of time.

Tips & Warnings

Always purchase duplicates of your favorite pieces.

Alternate your accessories frequently. Frequent wear causes your accessories to fade faster.

Don't get faux gold wet. Water makes the jewelry tarnish quicker. Your skin may turn green when you wear wet faux gold.

Gold accessories may chip, dent or break from rough treatment.

Don't continue to wear pieces that have started to fade. Throw out the accessory and buy a new one.

How to Make Foot Thongs

How to Make Foot Thongs

A foot thong is an anklet that stretches down the foot to the toe. Foot thongs are used in dancing or as an accessory for people who like to go barefooted. You can use these few supplies to make your own foot thongs in less than an hour.

Things You'll Need:

1 bag of beads

7 inches of Delica, small seed or spacer beads

Clear elastic string

Scissors

Clear fingernail polish

Step
1

Wrap the string around the ankle, down the front of the foot, around the first toe and back to the ankle. Cut the string at the back of the ankle.

Step
2

Slide the small beads or spacer beads to the middle of the string. Wrap the string around the toe to determine when you have enough beads. The spacer beads must come down the foot and in front of the toe at least 1/2 inch before adding more beads.

Step
3

Place a regular bead on both of the strings where the spacer beads end. This bead secures the toe piece and makes the string into a thong from the ankle to the toe. Stop these beads about 1 to 1-1/2 inches from the ankle.

Step
4

Bead the rest of the two strings separately. Use a step and repeat the design or just add random beads.

Step
5

Tie the 2 strings together in a knot 5 times. Cover
the
knot

with clear fingernail polish to hold it in place. Repeat all these steps to make a thong for the other foot.

Tips & Warnings

Sometimes it is easier to string beads with a needle.

Create a hand thongs using the same design. You also can use this process to create coined thongs for belly dancers.

How to Make Fool's Gold

How to Make Fool's Gold

The increasing value of gold is an incentive for unscrupulous individuals to make fool's gold. It pays to become wise about the methods used to make a piece of common metal have the appearance of real gold. Such methods include plating or painting metal to look like the real thing.

Learn to Identify How Fool's Gold Is Made

Step
1

Notice the attempt to coat metals with real gold. Instead of a nugget being pure gold, it may be a copper nugget with a thin layer of real gold. This thin layer can be misleading, since it has the external appearance of through-and-through gold.

Step
2

Look for gold paint to be used on metals to create fool's gold. The brilliance of real gold can easily be duplicated using high-quality paint. To check for authenticity, rub the surface to look for discriminating color differences or have a professional examine the piece.

Step
3

Examine gold look-alike substances, such as iron pyrite, which is one of the most common in the class of fool's gold. Iron pyrite has a distinct sulfur odor, and it is a brassy yellow. It is often used in jewelry.

Step
4

Check out the use of chalcopyrite (copper pyrites or copper sulfide) to make an object appear to be gold. This cooper ore is considered to be fool's gold, as it has a brassy to golden-yellow color that is much the same as pyrite. It is easily identified by its magnetic properties upon heating.

Step
5

Learn about bismutite, a mineral used to make fool's gold. The yellowish color and consistency can be mistaken for the real thing.

Step
6

Examine nuggets or jewelry to determine whether they are pure gold or gold plated. Using gold plating as a covering on another metal, such as silver or copper, can be misleading. The gold-plated layer on jewelry will eventually wear off, leaving the underlying metal to tarnish and discolor.

Tips & Warnings

Look for a jeweler's identifying trademark. Most gold jewelers have a registered mark that certifies the quality of the gold.

Consider the natural tarnish resistance of gold jewelry. Gold does not react with oxygen and will not tarnish.

Buy gold nuggets, coins or jewelry only from reputable dealers. If buying online, check with the Better Business Bureau for online services. Also, check for an actual physical address of the business.

How to Make Earring Holders Out of Extra Fabric

How to Make Earring Holders Out of Extra Fabric

If you are like me, you have a lot of earrings. I used to keep them in a box and it was disorganized and hard to find the earrings that matched. After speaking to a friend about how she organized her extensive earring collection. I tried her suggestion.

Things You'll Need:

Scissors

A thin fabric

Duct tape

Step
1

If you have a T-shirt, undershirt or just some extra lightweight fabric hanging around, grab it.

Step
2

Using your scissors cut a piece in any shape you want, but you want to make sure that it is big enough to hold all your earrings.

Step
3

Use the duct tape to tape the sides. This helps makes it more sturdy just in case your earrings rip a hole in the fabric.

Step
4

Place your earrings through the fabric. Place the backings on the posts. You can keep this flat on your dresser, or use push pins to place it on the wall.

How to Make Color Chic

How to Make Color Chic

When one thinks of sophistication, glamour and grandeur with regards to fashion, they typically think of black. After all, the little black dress is certifiably the go to look when something chic and timeless is on the agenda. But what about color? Color can be just as impactful if worn in the correct manner.

Things You'll Need:

Colorful clothing

Colorful accessories

Step
1

These days, everyone is wearing black because it's easy and familiar. But it's also becoming a bit bland. Make your own impression by arriving in cobalt blue or red.

Step
2

Follow the fashion trends. Every season a new color is touted as a "must have" and often the stores will stock up on bright hues in spring and summer. Choose a color you feel comfortable in so you're more likely to wear it.

Step
3

Keep it simple. A chic dress is usually tailored, sleek and soft. Whether that's pleats of chiffon close to the body, or a straight linen sheath the dress should be devoid of tacky embellishments.

Step
4

Strong, bold colors like red, blue, green, yellow and pink are excellent options for sophisticated styling. Winter colors should be warmer, while summer hues cooler.

Step
5

Keep your accessories minimal. Color tends to be full of impact so the accessories should only support it. Wear small studs, thin bangles or a jeweled watch as accents.

Tips & Warnings

In the winter wear your dress with simple heels and tights. In the summer opt for open-toed slingbacks in a neutral color.

Don't do garish colors like bright purple, orange or citrus hues. These are fun at times but can be harsh with most colorings and don't give off that "pulled together" chicness.

Just because you're wearing color doesn't mean you need it head-to-toe. Leave the matching shoes and handbag at home. Chic means keeping it all about the dress.
